BLONDIN THE GREAT-
HIGHWIRE ACT
NIAGARA FALLS - MID 1800'S
Amid the ovation, Blondin stopped and asked his audience if they believed he could carry a person across the falls in his wheelbarrow. Together they screamed, “Yes! You’re the greatest!” He stopped them short when he asked, “Who wants to get into the wheelbarrow?” Not one hand went up.
Like Blondin’s audience, sometimes we get excited and emotional after an important spiritual experience or a rousing sermon. Caught up in the moment, we are eager to cheer for those who are doing the work and taking the chances, but when we are called to step out in faith — to risk a little, or to lay it all on the line — our hands stay clasped firmly in our lap.
THERE IS A RISK TO CHALLENGING THE STATUS QUO!
In God's Kingdom, Playing it Safe IS RISKY
● It's a theme woven through out the Bible
● There are moments when God calls us out to go beyond the same old, same old.
● Try something, a new job, a new endeavor and it doesn't work out. At least you tried. You learned. You grew.
● IF you understood that GOD gives you permission to fail, explore, and go.
● PETER THE RISK-TAKER
○ He was impulsive, rash, and at times unfaithful.
○ He told Jesus to NOT go to the cross…. that he couldn't go to the cross...WHOA! PRESUMPTIVE...
○ He then denies Jesus 3 times.
○ 1st to point out Jesus’ identity.
○ Walked on water!
○ Commanded a cripple to stand up and walk!
Question To Ponder:
Am I willing to go after things in God and with God that break my comfort barriers to advance His kingdom? What is your chicken line?
