The bible reading today is in Romans 14-16.
Paul closes this letter of Romans with a picture of the church there. Did Paul create a drawing of the building where this church met for worship? No. Paul greeted over twenty people by name that made up the church at Rome. That wasn't all the followers of Christ there, just people that Paul knew.
The followers of Christ were the church.
So Paul painted a picture of the church by naming people and what they were doing in the name of Christ there. “
I commend to you “our sister Phoebe”, a “servant of the church at Cenchreae”, that you may “welcome her in the Lord” in a way “worthy of the saints”, and “help her in whatever she may need” from you for she has been a “patron of many and of myself” as well.”
