Our bible reading today is in Exodus chapters 4,5,6.
Look at what God is going to do.
Chapter 4
*God speaks to Moses...
...we are not surprised. He spoke to Adam...He spoke to Noah...He spoke to Job...He spoke to Abraham...He spoke to Isaac...He spoke to Jacob...He spoke to Joseph...and now He speaks to His servant Moses...about how He is going to use him...
for His people, the nation of His promise...
That nation? is Israel...that promise? is the eternal Savior...Jesus Christ!
May we not be surprised when God speaks to us. Let’s stay in the Bible...the inspired words of God to us who believe Him...and let’s expect the Spirit of God to speak to our hearts...at any place, at any time. Sometimes the voice of God will sound like your spouse...sometimes like your friend, even sometimes like your children, sometimes like your pastors, or sometimes like your favorite songwriter. So like a young Samuel, may we say, “Speak Lord, your servant is listening.” 1 Samuel 3:9.
*God tells Moses to be alert...to be watchful...to be expecting God to work. Why?
Let’s learn from Jesus...“The Son can do nothing of his own accord...only what He sees the Father doing.” John 5:19...
“Moses...Jim...Beverly...every believer...I'm not calling you to do something on your own or of your own creating. Just stay with me, listen for me...watch what is already going on...and then join me in it.”
“Ok, Lord...By the grace of God, I'm staying “dusty”...so close to you that I won't miss a word you say or a good work you do...and the dust from your walking sandals will rise to settle on me.”
*God is going to do wonders through Moses...that Pharoah will see...in Egypt!!!
“Go for it Moses...you and Aaron and God...it will be mysterious at times we are sure...
faith stretching, absolutely...and this is going to get dangerous...
...but we are learning from our reading that most “God adventures” are. And you couldn't be in better company...a brother that respects you, and God Almighty...Jesus Christ the “I Am!”
Listen and watch.
“What’s that in your hand, Moses?... God asked. “A staff Lord,” Moses responded. “Throw it on the ground”, God demanded. Moses threw it down. Immediately the staff turned into a snake. God said to Moses, now pick it up by the tail. And he did. And the snake turned back into the staff.
Then God said, “This and other wonders will I do through you. And you will say to Pharoah, “God says Let my people go!” Israel is my firstborn and I wish for them to worship me.” If you refuse Me, I will visit your firstborn child and put him to death.”
God was going to use Moses and Aaron to make a serious impression in Egypt...from the Palace to the Pyramids. God was going to deliver His people and get grand glory in the process.
How? you ask.
Well, that’s the rest of the story...and we will enjoy it.
Oh, did I mention that God hardened Pharoah’s heart against Moses’ request? Wouldnt that make Moses’ job of rescuing Israel harder? From Moses’ perspective, for sure. But what I believe?... It’s all about God’s magnificent glory...God’s big and Egypt is not.
