March 17th
Our Bible reading today is in Deuteronomy chapters 17 thru 20.
“When you come into the land that the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominable practices of those nations that God is driving out before you...such as killing your children and or your elderly parents in an act of worshipping yourself...reject such pure evil when you come into the land that God is giving you. Don't give in to it...fight against it.”
“Oh...but you're concerned because I have told you that God is giving you another leader, Joshua? Do not fear...trust God and trust God with your leaders.”
“You also wonder about who God is going to use to prophesy in my absence. The Lord your God will raise up a prophet like me from among you. And God will put His words in his mouth...listen to him...his voice will remind you of God’s voice...his powerful presence will remind you of the fire that fell on the mountain and frightened you....listen to Him!
Who would be that new prophet like unto Moses?...who would be transfigured on a mountain like unto Moses?...who would be the voice of God that speaking his own name would cause hundreds of soldiers to stumble backward to the ground? Who would be that new prophet?
JESUS....that’s who...Listen to Him...
Moses was prophesying about the Messiah to come...1400 years into the future.
Moses was giving these young believers a “God-sized vision” to fight with...all the way from Canaan to the Kingdom of heaven. Halleluiah and amen!
One more thing...After Moses preached about the new Prophet to come, he gave explanations about the “refuge” cities that would be established in the new land.
Ps 46....”God is our refuge...a very present help in time of need.”
Hebrews 6...
“holding fast to Jesus. The hope that is set before us...”
Note the similarities of The cities of refuge and Jesus:
Both are near
Both are open
Both are a place to live
Both are the only alternative for the desperate
Both provide salvation inside
Both mean full freedom with the death of the high priest
The crucial difference: City of refuge only helps the innocent...Jesus saves guilty sinners.
Thank you, Jesus...
Have a great day
