May 26th

We are back in the Songbook today...Psalms 131, 138, 139 ,143-145.

David wrote of his conviction about the presentness of the God of his salvation. “Where can I go from Your Spirit? Where can I flee from Your presence?”

David believed that there was no corner of the universe that was hidden from God. Heaven was not too high and hell too low for God not to see there or be there. God was and is omnipresent...everywhere present. We believe right along with you, David.

Some spiritual views say that God is everything...” he’s that tree and stream and star and planet”...thus they make idols of “everything”...

The Creator is a Person, Jesus is His name...he’s not the creation, but there is no part of his creation...anywhere and everywhere, that He is not present. David knew that and praised God’s all-knowingness and all-presentness. So do we!

“Where can I flee from Your presence, Lord?” The word “presence” shows up a lot in our bible reading. It’s the word for “many faces”. And what are those faces? I tend to lean toward the “face of the Father”, “face of the Son”, and “face of the Spirit”...they are everywhere, especially when I need them!

I'm comforted in that truth...for myself and my family and friends. It is good for my soul to be reminded that God is already here...already there...everywhere! He is with us, never to leave us nor forsake us...

So now, more of my prayers are like,” Father remind my loved ones that Thou art there...knowing, seeing, protecting, supplying...Help them recognize Your presence and live in that faith reality.

I like what Charles Haddon Spurgeon wrote and preached about the presence of God. He said...“The presence of God’s glory is in heaven...” The presence of God’s power is on earth...” The presence of God’s justice is in hell...” The presence of God’s grace is with His people.”

Amen and amen!

Moving on in Psalm 139...David speaks of God’s presence with a picturesque phrase...“Wings of the morning...”

This may refer to the speed of light as it spreads across the morning sky from east to west. Perhaps David thought, “even the flight of light cannot outrun the presence of my God”...Halleluiah...what a Savior!

David said, “Surely the darkness will fall upon me...even there Your hand will lead me...Your right hand shall hold me...” Meaning with You where I am, even in the darkness of dying there will be the light of Your presence...casting away the shadows of fear.

Praise Your Name Father...Thank You Jesus...Thank You Holy Spirit for being ever-present with us, Your chosen vessels of Your promise and glory.

Enjoy the rest of the song...

Have a great day
