October 20th

The bible reading today is in Matthew 16, Mark 8, Luke 9:18-27.

After Jesus raised Jairus’ daughter to life, Jesus was praying alone. Makes me wonder if he stuck around for the family celebration. I'm sure he did, for a while at least. But what is recorded is that Jesus was praying alone.

Apparently...”There’s a time for celebrating...and there’s a time for praying.” Jesus did both.

And all of a sudden, the disciples were with him. Did the disciples interrupt Jesus’ prayer time with the Father? Or...Did Jesus invite the disciples to join him in prayer? Or...Did Jesus finish his praying and wanted to talk with his friends?

Perhaps any one or all of the three were true. But one thing is for sure...Jesus, on purpose, spent time with the Father and with the disciples.

Well, Jesus asked his friends a question. “Who do people say that I am?”

Some say that you are John the Baptist...some say, Elijah. And then Jesus asked, “Who do you say that I am?”

Peter said, “The Christ...the Messiah of God!”

And then Jesus strictly charged and commanded them to tell this to no one, saying, “The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.”
