One of the greatest distractions to spiritual growth is drawing power from our human assets instead of relying on the Lord. Spiritually speaking, power means having the resources and ability to pursue and achieve godly goals, to maintain our convictions and standards in the face of subtle challenges or direct opposition, and to influence individuals, groups, and relational networks (systems) for godly purposes. The spiritual disciplines of fasting, silence and solitude serve primarily to detach us from the world's “power sources” so we can tap into the Lord, allowing God’s power to sustain, guide and protect us. APPLICATION: Detachment from worldly power and comfort helps us access God’s power and experience our freedom in Christ.
