Prayer is an investment in the future that God has for the world. And so, prayer often is an act of risk and faith.
As the Babylonians are besieging Jerusalem, God commands Jeremiah to buy a field(!), as a description of how God will bring health and life to the area after God uses the Babylonians to enact judgement on His people. When we pray as Christ and the prophets taught, we place ourselves in the hands of a God who is beyond time and space. Therefore, the momentary circumstances around us and the mere moments of time that comprise our lives – these things are brief and small compared with God’s timing and majesty!
Charge: As 2023 begins, we should commit ourselves to prayer for our church and our communities. And we should be ready to risk ourselves to see God’s good will done in God’s good time.
