Since creation, the Lord has called us, as his image-bearers, to reflect God’s nature in a holy partnership in life and work. Theologians describe our call to be “vice-regents” who exercise God-given authority in the responsible care for and management of creation. Spiritual exercises channel the life of Christ through us as we play our part in Christ’s continuing work in the world. We have one call in life—to live for Jesus Christ—that expresses itself in two ways. The first is the discipline of our daily call as disciples; the second is the discipline of our vocational call. Application: Spiritual exercises and practices are means to help us become God’s person and God’s partner in continuing Jesus’ work in this world.
