Those facing pressure and persecution are tempted to give in to anxiety (living in fear of what could happen), anger (giving in to bitterness against the world, others, and even God), and/or apathy (surrendering to indifference). Revelation 4 transports us to the throne room of heaven, where we see the reality of what now is. Images echoing Exodus, Isaiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel proclaim that our God reigns. In spite of appearances, God is sovereign over all. The Revelation reveals God’s hand “behind the scenes,” working in all things for the redemption of his people and the destruction of evil.
