Revelation 21:1-22:5 present the glorious vision of the New Heaven and the New Earth. Most assume heaven is “somewhere else” and that we will have an entirely different mode of existence there. In contrast to our assumptions, Scripture testifies we will dwell in a context that still has a sense of “physicality” – of materiality– as demonstrated by Jesus eating and being “touchable” following his resurrection. The primary truth is that the New Creation will no longer “contain” a localized tabernacle or temple, but will be “contained” within God. We will live in the unmediated presence of God. Words strain to communicate the splendor and joy that await us.
