PEACE. Sadly, Christmas and stress have become synonymous terms for most of us. Peace in all its forms (inner peace, interpersonal peace, world peace, etc) seems like a high ideal, far out of reach. Mary’s response to the angel Gabriel’s visit shows ways to face the most intense pressures of life– in any season. Mary took time to step back (Luke 1:39) as she welcomed the angel’s visit. Mary also found peace as she took time to reach out (Luke 1:40) to Elizabeth. And Mary took time to look up (Luke 1:46-55). Mary’s song of praise and hope grew out of her reflection as she came to understand God’s ways more deeply and to appreciate her role in God’s plan.
