God created every human being with an appetite. Along with food, we have a number of other “appetites”: an appetite for love, acceptance, satisfaction, achievement, recognition and so on. And the Scriptures teach us that what we do with our appetites (desires) will determine if we fulfill God’s will for our lives. Shortly before the Feast of Passover (the feast celebrating the national identity of the Jews), Jesus performs the miracle of feeding the 5,000. The timing is no coincidence. Jesus is demonstrating that just as God provided Manna in the dessert, he is our ultimate provision from God: That he essential for our lives. Jesus says, I am the bread of life! There are two Greek words for life: bios (biological life) & zoe (quality of life). Zoe is a life full of meaning, exhilaration, joy; the kind of life worth living!
