This week I am interviewing Tim Cameron of Rally Canada on the important topic of Canada's resources and western alienation.
In his community of Drayton Valley, AB, the foreclosure rate in the downtown core is estimated to be as high as 55%, some people who are post secondary educated are using the food bank and kids are reported to be dropping out of high school to get jobs to help their parents make ends meet. The personal impact on western Canadians of the slow down in the resource sector has been staggering. All this in spite of the fact that Albertans have consistently paid the highest amount of money to other provinces in transfer payments to help them in their quality of life.
The situation has left many in the western provinces feeling alienated. Rightfully so.
It is important to national unity that those of us who do not live in western provinces take time to understand what is happening at this moment in our national history, and respond with compassionate solutions.
