This Week’s Listener Question:

My high school aged daughter is spiraling deeper and deeper into depression. It’s so painful to watch and I’m scared! What can I do to help?

Study after study is showing that mental health issues are becoming more and more prevalent, especially among young adults and teens.

How we react and help is so important, but it’s often really hard to figure out what to do. Do we try to fix them? Rescue them? Or do we detach and avoid so they can fix themselves?

This week we walk through some helpful strategies to come alongside those who are struggling in order to be the type of help they need.

Small Group Questions:

1.         What parts (feelings/ emotions) come up for you when a loved one is in distress?

2.       In what ways are you modeling a healthy relationship with your own depression?

3.       What are your spiritual resources (helpful attitudes or practices) when you experience depression?

4.       In your mind, what’s the difference between rescuing and empowering a loved one?

5.       How can you “amplify” or empower someone you love to ground themselves and/or practice self-compassion and self-care?
