Anxiety, fear, and panic attacks – Oh My!
They can cause us to do some crazy things - like Laura accosting the Amazon driver who she thought stole her dog. Fear is such a powerful emotion that we needed two episodes to talk about how to recognize and manage it…. Because without an Amazon driver, you’re all alone in this world.
This Week’s Listener Question:
I’ve been wrecked recently with anxiety and fear. I’m usually a calm, level-headed person but lately I’m feeling so out of control that I can’t sleep and I just had my first panic attack. What do you think I should do?
Small Group Questions:
1. As Christine explained, fear is a protective response to a present threat. Anxiety is fear or worry about something that might happen in the future. Which one do you experience more often?
2. Many adults are afraid of public speaking or being rejected. What fears top your list?
3. Where does fear usually show up in your body – your shoulders, chest, or belly, or somewhere else? How might you comfort or calm your body when fear arises? (rock back and forth, sway, sing, breathe into that part of you…)
4. In what situations or areas of your life have you befriended fear? What strategies have you learned that help you do this?
