This week, we pick up where we left off with some helpful tips, tricks, and hacks to manage our thoughts when they start to swirl out of control

 

This Week’s Listener Question:

I’ve been wrecked recently with anxiety and fear. I’m usually a calm, level-headed person but lately I’m feeling so out of control that I can’t sleep and I just had my first panic attack. What do you think I should do?

 

Small Group Questions:

 

1.         Have you experienced an increase in anxiety since the beginning of the pandemic? Or do you know someone who has?

 

2.       Christine and Laura discussed many techniques we can use to calm our nervous system when anxiety is trying to highjack us. They mentioned breathing, praying, grounding, exercise, yoga, meditation, and practicing gratitude. Which one of these resonates with you?

 

3.       What calming practices have you tried and/or willing to begin to practice?

 

4.       What scripture in the Bible or calming statement could you repeat (Contemplative Prayer) to capture your thoughts and increase your peace?

 

 

Small Group Challenge:

 

If you’re meeting with a small group, chose one or two practices to do together. One person can be the facilitator and ask the question, count out the breathing, or lead the group through

 

1.         How do you feel in your body after this practice?

 

2.       What new thoughts are running through your mind?

 

3.       How could you carve out time to practice this more often?
