Description

Loneliness is an epidemic. Although we’ve never been more connected online, 79% of adults report being lonely. And loneliness is a killer. It’s been shown that the negative health effects of being lonely are equal to smoking 15 cigarettes a day!

This week we start our two-episode look at loneliness, with some tips on how to break out and make the connections you need.

This Week’s Listener Question:

My daughter left for college three weeks ago. She called to tell me how lonely she is. Oh… my heart breaks thinking of her alone in her room. I get it! I feel lonely a lot of the time too. What should we do?

This week we talk strategies to reach out and overcome loneliness.

Small Group Questions:

1.  What statistics about loneliness surprised you? Which ones didn’t surprise you at all? (see links below for more data)

2. Why do you think we’re living in the age of loneliness?

3.  What strategies for connection are you willing to try?

4.  How can showing up multiple times and being vulnerable encourage authentic connections and community?

5.  Who could you reach out to this week who might be feeling lonely? In what meaningful ways could you connect with this person? Make a plan and go!
