Judges 17 and 18 begin to tell the story of what happens when “everyone does what is right in their own eyes:” individuals choose to live in spiritual blindness and rebellion to God. This self-centeredness is the root of idolatry for the people of Godl. Their hope back then (and ours today) lies in the coming of God’s chosen king.
