We are beginning a new sermon series on 1 Corinthians to coincide with our school year theme of "Choosing Unity". You and I both know how polarized our world is right now and how much more fractured it can become in an election season. We have lost the ability to really listen to one another. We take sides. We take positions and, let's be honest, sometimes we forget why. Now more than ever the Church has a responsibility to be bridge builders and peacemakers in our community.
We do not live in a perfect and just world. Disputes happen among people in communities, neighborhoods, and families all the time. They are part of our lives. How we handle disputes says more about us than even how the dispute arose in the first place. How we handle disputes is a reflection of our faith.
When we take sides, we neglect to see one another. Let us remember from where we have come and give thanks.
