A discussion of Conscious Elderhood with David “Lucky” Goff and Alexandra Hart, co-founders of the Transition Sebastopol Elder Salon, and James Stark, co-founder of Commonweal Garden in Bolinas.
We discuss their new book, The Age of Actualization: A Handbook for Growing Elder Community. It is based on their experiences of creating and running the Transition Sebastopol Elders Salon, formed in 2010. They also co-host a monthly radio program called "Growing an Elder Culture." David has a psychotherapy practice and is also the author of “EMBRACING LIFE: Toward a Psychology of Interdependence. It is Alexandra's expectation that if enough of this new generation of older people can attain Elderhood (vs. merely aging), their gifts of perspective and collective wisdom could guide humanity to a new understanding of the possibilities of a well-developed and mature population.
DAVID "LUCKY" GOFF had a brain aneurism in 2003. As a result of his stroke and the onset of a rare brain syndrome, he nearly died and ended up permanently disabled. This experience had a transformational effect on David, which made him "Lucky," and cued him into how radically connected all things are.
