How to Avoid Over Explaining Here are a few things you can do that will help.
1.) Write down what you're going to say before you say it.
2.) Pause. Take a breath and ask yourself, "Does the person in front of me need to know this?"
3.) Follow cues if a person looks confused, bored, or overwhelmed; stop. Ask a question or allow them to speak.
