This summer, we’re excited to share a new limited podcast series from KHOL and Stio in the Jackson Unpacked feed. In five episodes, Facets explores the passions, tensions and healing that people find while living in a mountain town.
The second episode, "Preserving a Teton Icon," is about the small population of bighorn sheep that persists in the Teton range in impossible conditions—often above 10,000 feet. Local wildlife biologists who have been painstakingly tracking the population for decades say the herd is in danger, and are therefore proposing winter backcountry closures to try and give the sheep some space. KHOL’s Will Walkey reports on how the effort is pitting some skiers against conservationists and exploring the very core of what it means for humans to interact with public lands.
