Episode 048 - Use Your Words REPLAY
As we come to the end of 2020, we're looking back on some the episodes that received the most response. This was the 6th episode we ever recorded and Brian injects some much-needed emotion into the topic of how we treat our customers and colleagues.

“Give me the title work.” “I need the listing sheet emailed to me.” Are we really that rude? Our words matter! How we present ourselves to our clients and to other industry professionals can the set the tone for this transaction and all future business. In this episode we talk about ways to improve our communication and be the professionals our clients and industry expect. LISTEN TO IT NOW! (ha ha)

- 01:25 – Maybe it’s intentional or unintentional, but the way we speak comes off as very rude. Maybe you're busy, kids are yelling in the background, or you're writing something quick.

- 11:20 – Do you have any manners? "Please" and "thank you" are still okay to say. Gives you professionalism and will get you things.
- 12:10 – Smile when you communicate. Face-to-face, text, email, phone...doesn’t matter...SMILE.
- 14:25 – Yelling and tantrums don’t work. Might “grease the squeaky wheel” but won’t get what you want. Maybe you’re mad about something that you don’t understand or just part of the situation that can’t be changed, controlled or helped.
- 15:25 – Cate: keep a calm head. You can’t change other agent’s attitude. Guide your client with a cool demeanor and they will likely follow your lead.
- 16:30 – Respect is earned, not given. Your words and actions establish who you are. “You get more flies with honey than with vinegar.” Being mean seldom gets you what you want.
- 17:00 – Mulitple offer situations can push the agent with a bad demeanor out of contention.
- 18:30 – Create raving fans by putting their offers in the spotlight with positive attitudes, complimentary comments, etc.
- 19:30 – Mid-episode break; Cate’s “Sidenote/Tangent”: Famous house in Top Gun...with a sidenote, sidenote tangent.
- 23:10 – Problems with technology and communication: texting, email, etc. Someone infers a negative comment even though you didn’t intend it to be negative. Maybe a phone call is better.
- 24:20 – Cate doesn’t like the word, “Sure” in a text.
- 25:00 – Autocorrect fails.
- 26:00 – Communication apps that can help: Voxer, SlyDial and Bomb Bomb. Watch for bonus content about those apps.

- 26:50 – Sometimes you do need be angry about a situation. Act appropriately.
- 27:30 – Use an "accountability partner" to vent. Refrain from venting to your client or the person you are mad about.
- 28:00 – Weekly Quote from B: “Your words have power. You can use them to either benefit yourself, or use them to benefit others.” Benefit others rather than yourself.
