Description

It's the New Year! In most of corporate America, this means annual performance review season has officially begun.

No matter how driven you are in your career, there's a very good chance that you dread this season.

You are not alone in feeling this way.

Why do we feel this way? It's supposed to be a good thing, right?

Well, there are plenty of sources behind this dread.

Part of the dread is grounded in a basic human feeling of ugh, you are forcing me to do this! We humans tend to not like being forced into doing anything.

Part of it stems from an uncomfortable suspicion of a company caring about the personal development of an employee. Yeah, we know that managers or leaders may care about our personal development—but a company? There's part of us that doesn't buy it.

And much of this feeling of dread is simply about time. We're feeling: I'm busy kicking off the year, and you want me to take extra time to create goals in a template that's not intuitive for something I inherently don't trust in the first place. Come on!

I'm not going to go all Little Miss Sunshine on you and convince you why corporate goal-setting processes are the best thing ever. Truth is, most of these processes suck.

BUT—in this episode, I will explain to you why this goal-setting process is important to the company and why it's critical for your career path at that company.

I can also give you insights and practical advice on how to work this process to your advantage. Once you understand the game, you can master it.

By the time we are done, you may not even dread the process anymore. Equipped with your new insight and tools, you may even start to look forward to it.

Let's set you up for a successful year in your career. Tune in and let's get after it.
