Does anyone remember Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes for GC? It was loved by critics, but completely forgotten. The Resident Evil remake got more love.

Kirby's Dream Land (KDL) hasn't ever been officially remade, but it's been reimagined a few times. In Kirby's Adventure, the final level before the final boss is an homage to KDL. In Kirby Super Star, the first game mode spring breeze is also an homage to KDL. Both Kirby's Adventure and Kirby Super Star got their own remakes: Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land and Kirby Super Star Ultra respectively. Ultra even adds Revenge of the King, which reimagines Kirby's Dream Land's Extra Game (Basically hard mode). Finally, Kirby's Blowout Blast is a reimagining of KDL in 3D.

@the Well-Red Mage stole my Maniac Mansion answer which I was just talking about yesterday on the Nintendo Pals discord lol. Another fairly early one was the Gameboy versions of Dragon Warrior 1, 2, and 3.

So this isn't an "early" remake, but Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are some of my favorite games in the series, and I think they get a lot of unwarranted hate for not being completely identical to the original GBA games.
