Have you ever looked at grapevines? Each fall/winter they are pruned so that there is almost nothing left. Each spring new branches come forth and are fruitful. If they were let to grow wild on their own, chances are the branches would grow into each other, get tangled and mangled to the point where the plant isn't as fruitful as it could be. Our lives are the same way. God wants to prune and cut things out so that his fruit and flourish!
