MARCH ON WASHINGTON - This weekend, thousands will gather at the Lincoln Memorial for the 60th anniversary of the March on Washington. The nonviolent protest attracted as many as 250,000 during the summer of 1963 as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech. Experts say that march laid the groundwork for the passage of federal civil rights and voting rights legislation in the next few years. This year, organizers say this march will be a continuation of King’s work as the nation faces a series of new challenges. This includes limited voting rights and the recent overturning of affirmative action in college admissions by the Supreme Court. We break down the significant of this moment and what we can expect this weekend.
