Amid controversy which we talked about last year on POV with Equal Ground, SB2510 passed. It allows the KIPP Team and Family charter school to come into under populated or lower performing schools (which will be in majority minority neighborhoods) and set up "Schools of Hope". There has been an approximate 6,500 student enrollment decline this year. This method will have to be financially supported by OCPS funds and can ultimately drain the taxpayer coffers. An alternative offered by Jarvis Wheeler with LIFT Orlando, was modeled after a school in Harlem and works independently in their neighborhood school which is Orange Center Elementary. Principal Erin Albert understands the need to work with parents and students together to build toward excellence. OCPS School Board Member, Vicki Felder also mentioned an upcoming conservative led conference, ALEC as well as the Jones H.S. revitalization meeting Monday November 17th @ 6pm
