Can there ever be “Reparations of relationships” between police and the community? That was our hot topic this morning. We welcomed Julian O’Neil from United Foundation of Central Florida and Kelli Murray as we discussed various approaches to tackle the root of disconnect between citizens and law enforcement. Julian was “saved” by the same community organization he works for now. To find out how to get your teen involved log onto https://www.unitedfoundationcf.org/
In the second hour, Associate Criminal Justice Professor at Bethune Cookman University, Dr. Kideste Yusef spoke on documenting the needs of the community to integrate law enforcement to live and develop cohesively. As an educator she primes the importance of engaging with people properly vs. patronizing them. The BCU Master’s program has graduated several students to date and 6 of them now have prominent law positions around the country in local police departments as well as the FBI.
