Spending for and against Propositions 26 and 27 on this November’s California ballot is now approaching the $500 million dollar mark, unprecedented in the history of American politics.
Online gaming companies are going head-to-head with California tribes, over whether gambling on sports should be legalized, and who gets to control it.
On Monday’s show, we heard from the spokesperson for the Yes on 26/No on 27 campaign, whose side wants to bring sports betting to tribal casinos and racetracks only, and keep the gambling app companies out of the picture.
Today, KCBS Radio's Doug Sovern, Patti Reising and Bret Burkhart are joined by Nathan Click, speaking for the Yes on 27 campaign, which is bankrolled by the online gaming firms FanDuel, DraftKings and MGM.
Their measure would legalize online and mobile gaming and would generate fees to the state that would go toward fighting homelessness and gambling addiction, as well as give some money to smaller native tribes that don’t have casinos.
