President Joe Biden made it official today, he is running for a second term, in 2024. The president released an early morning campaign video campaign his intentions, with the new slogan, “Let’s Finish The Job.”
And featured prominently in that video was Vice President Kamala Harris, with subsequent fundraising emails referring to the Biden-Harris ticket, making it crystal clear that President Biden does not intend to change running mates. Biden is 80 years old, he will be 82 by Election Day next year, he’ll be 86 by the end of a second term, but he’s going for it, trying to become a two-term president, and in fact, not only is he the oldest president ever, if he wins, he will be just the second person ever elected vice president twice and president twice. The first being Richard Nixon, who of course did not complete his second term. So, if Biden is re-elected and serves all four years, he will be the first person in American history to serve two full terms in both jobs, which would certainly give him a special place in the history books.
But for now, the race for 2024 is on, with Biden in the ring, facing token opposition so far from Democrats Marianne Williamson and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and on the Republican side so far, we have former President Trump, and two former Southern governors, Nikki Haley and Asa Hutchinson, though Ron DeSantis, Mike Pence and others are waiting in the wings.
