The KYW Newsradio All-Local: Monday, August 21, 2023 (Morning Edition):
- Nine people were shot early Saturday in Mill Creek. One man was pronounced dead at the scene, and eight others were injured. Also on Saturday evening, inside the Philadelphia Mills Mall, a group robbed Javier the Jeweler with pepper spray and sledgehammers. Finally, three separate incidents Saturday night into Sunday morning left three people injured by gunfire.
- It was win or go home for the Media team in the Little League World Series on Sunday. Unfortunately, they’ll be heading back to Delaware County after a 7-2 loss to Rhode Island Sunday. KYWs Tim Jimenez was at the big watch party on State Street as fans gave the team a big final cheer.
- The union representing Philadelphia Orchestra musicians has authorized a strike as a stalemate continues at the bargaining table. With 95% of voting members in support, the strike authorization vote will allow the union to officially call a strike if the orchestra’s management fails to reach agreement for a contract. The current contract expires on Sept.10.
- At the end of September, Philly AIDS Thrift will celebrate 18 years with its annual Fall Fest and Block Party. The one-day event will help raise money for local HIV-AIDS organizations.
