Hour 1 of The Dawn Stensland Show:
- Local News Headlines/News Rundown
- Two Pennsylvania state police troopers were killed on I-95 in South Philadelphia on Sunday night. The officers were struck by a vehicle being illegally driven on the shoulder of the highway. Police suspect the driver may have been intoxicated at the time of the crash.
- A 15-year-old suspect in three separate shootings, including one on Temple University’s campus, was arrested by Philadelphia police on Monday.
- Gina Diorio—Public Affairs Director at Commonwealth Partners Chamber of Entrepreneurs—joins the show to discuss her most recent editorial, “Josh Shapiro Fights for Headlines, Not Pennsylvania’s Kids.” Diorio argues that Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro has spent more time pursuing an investigation into TikTok’s potential ill-effects on teen mental health than prosecuting record levels of gun violence in PA cities.
- The Temple University police union has stated that they are operating with 60% of their typical workforce and, because of understaffing, they “cannot perform adequate community policing techniques.”
- During an interview with Fox29’s Jeff Cole, District Attorney Larry Krasner explained that he didn’t know whether or not Philadelphia would have more homicides in 2022 than it did in 2021—but, he continued, “the good news” is the city doesn't currently have twice as many murders as last year.
