Hour 1 of The Dawn Stensland Show:
- Local News Headlines/News Rundown
- On Tuesday, Philadelphia City Council held a budget hearing for the city’s police department—which is requesting a budget increase of $23.7 million. During the hearing, Commissioner Danielle Outlaw stated the department’s clearance rate goal for non-fatal shootings is 30%. Councilwoman Helen Gym suggested the department’s goal seemed low.
- Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner spoke to City Councilmembers about budget increases. Council President Darrell Clarke told Krasner that city residents are demanding changes to his prosecutorial strategies, citing sky-high homicide rates and general safety concerns throughout Philadelphia.
- Philadelphia Police are searching for a man accused of two sexual assaults—the latest occurring on a SEPTA train over the weekend.
- Kyle Sammin—Senior Contributor to The Federalist & Co-Host of the “Conservative Minds” podcast—joins the show to discuss his latest editorial, “PA Gov’s Race is GOP’s to Lose, But They Can Lose It.” Sammin stresses the importance of nominating a Republican that is sufficiently conservative, but doesn’t turn-off Independent voters in the general election. For example, Sen. Doug Mastriano’s (the primary’s current leader) involvement in the January 6th Capitol riots could be off-putting to Pennsylvania’s moderate residents. Sammin’s article is available at RealRealPennsylvania.com.
- Vice President Kamala Harris has tested positive for COVID-19. During an interview last week, Press Secretary Jen Psaki said the White House has prepared for the possibility that President Biden may contract the virus at some point.
