Hour 1 of The Dawn Stensland Show:
- According to statistics, 95 kids have been shot in Philadelphia this year—with 19 kids killed. Earlier this week, local teens spoke with City Councilmembers about what should be done to protect kids and enhance safety in areas surrounding schools.
- Michael Busler—Professor of Finance at Stockton University—joins the show to discuss the Federal Reserves’ announcement that it will raise interest rates 0.75 percent. According to the Wall Street Journal, this is the largest rate hike since 1994. Chairman Jerome Powell said a 0.50 or 0.75 percent rate increase, to help combat inflation, is likely after the Fed’s next meeting in July. Dr. Busler believes the Fed may have waited too long to address inflation and, consequently, a recession before the end of the year is a real possibility. He explains that inflation primarily hurts low-wage earners, and older individuals that are retired and living on a fixed income. Moving forward will the Biden Administration adopt more responsible economic policies—or will it continue to promote social policies that are negatively impacting many of the people they are purported to help?
- Philadelphia is one of the finalists to host the 2026 men’s World Cup. On Thursday night, the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) is expected to announce where the competition will be held.
- Ron DeSantis was asked about Elon Musk’s suggestion that he might back the Florida Governor for President in 2024. DeSantis joked that he would “welcome support from African Americans.” Musk was born in Pretoria, South Africa.
