Hour 1 of The Dawn Stensland Show:
- Local News Headlines/News Rundown
- On Wednesday, a public viewing was held for Pennsylvania State Trooper Martin F. Mack III. Mack’s funeral is scheduled for 11am on Thursday.
- Joel Kotkin—Presidential Fellow in Urban Futures at Chapman University & Author of The Coming Neo-Feudalism: A Warning to the Global Middle Class—joins the show to discuss his latest editorial, “The Most Dangerous Class: The Coming Revenge of Disappointment.” Kotkin explains there are currently more college graduates than there are jobs that genuinely require a college education, ultimately resulting in Millennials and Generation Z receiving annual salaries that are significantly less than what they were expecting upon graduation. He writes “in 2018, half of recent college graduates made under $30,000 annually.” Alarmingly, if large parts of educated society become disaffected, they may become susceptible to supporting utopian policy proposals like universal basic income (UBI)—as well as authoritarian figures.
- According to police, an 8-year-old boy fired a gun outside of a West Philadelphia school. Thankfully, no one was harmed.
- On Thursday, Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney will present his 2023 budget proposal to City Council. After several years of Philadelphia leadership advocating for the defunding of police, the new budget would increase police funding by $23.7 million.
