Hour 1 of The Dawn Stensland Show:
- Local News Headlines/News Rundown
- According to the Philadelphia Police Department, there have been more than 90 carjackings in the city since the beginning of January. Commissioner Danielle Outlaw stated that Philly police are “using every resource available to combat this issue.”
- Philadelphia has been selected by the White House and U.S. Postal Service as one of the cities from which the Biden Administration’s COVID-19 test kits give-away pilot program will launch.
- Pennsylvania Representative Martina White has introduced legislation that would limit the District Attorney of Philadelphia to serving no more than two four-year terms. Larry Krasner was recently elected to his second term. White's bill is not expected to pass.
- Legendary Philadelphia Attorney George Bochetto joins the show to discuss his run for the United States Senate. Bochetto explains that he was motivated to run for Pat Toomey’s soon to be vacant Senate seat after recognizing that public safety is not being treated as a priority by elected officials. As the crime rate increases, it seems as though law enforcement is becoming more relaxed—a trend, Bochetto believes, needs to come to an end. Bochetto also talks about having famously written a legal brief in defense of Donald Trump’s First Amendment right to free speech during the former President’s second impeachment trial, as well as what it was like beginning his childhood in an orphanage.
- Shelters throughout Philadelphia are experiencing a surge in Omicron cases, complicating winter for many individuals experiencing homelessness throughout the city.
