- On Thursday, 5,000 friends, family, and community members gathered for the funeral of Pennsylvania State Trooper Martin F. Mack III.
- Starting April 1st, the city of Philadelphia will begin to enforce its restriction on plastic bags. Business owners are concerned using paper bags exclusively could more than double their bagging costs—costs that will likely be passed on to consumers.
- On Thursday, Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney presented his 2023 budget proposal to City Council. After several years of Philadelphia leadership advocating for defunding police, the new budget proposal would increase police funding by $23.7 million.
- The School District of Philadelphia has selected Tony Watlington to be the city’s new superintendent. Watlington had been the superintendent of the Rowan-Salisbury School District in North Carolina.
- According to a Philadelphia Inquirer report, the Philadelphia School District will need to hire roughly 900 teachers by the fall of 2022.
- Todd Shepherd—Broad + Liberty’s Chief Investigative Reporter—joins the show to discuss his latest article, “Records Request Shows No Communications from Krasner Seeking Better Forensic Technologies for Law Enforcement.” Shepherd filed a Right to Know Law request seeking all official communications in which District Attorney Larry Krasner sought for his office to be provided with additional forensic technology. The report revealed those requests do not exist, despite Krasner publicly blaming the lack of technology for unsolved crimes and, consequently, high-crime rates in Philadelphia.
- Buddy the cat, who had been attacked by two dogs last month, is now in stable condition and will be discharged to a foster home.
