Hour 1 of The Dawn Stensland Show:
- Earlier this week, a former Philadelphia police officer charged with murder told jurors that he fired his weapon at Dennis Plowden Jr. because, “I thought he was going to reach for a gun and shoot me,” according to a report from the Philadelphia Inquirer. The jury enters its third day of deliberations on Wednesday.
- On Tuesday, Delaware officials readied for a plane of undocumented migrants to arrive at Delaware Coastal Airport. However, the plane never arrived—ultimately landing in Tennessee instead. According to the Philadelphia inquirer: “The Tuesday drama began with a Twitter report that showed one of the planes that DeSantis used to send people to Martha’s Vineyard was scheduled to travel to Delaware, coming from Florida after originating in Texas.”
- According to a Fox29 news report, Chichester High School in Delaware County is dealing with a bullying problem that has “spiraled out of control”—with parents now concerned about the well-being of their children while in school.
- September is National Preparedness Month—Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is imploring Americans to prepare themselves for floods and other hazardous weather events.
- New Jersey State Senator Bob Smith has introduced an amendment to the state’s existing legislation banning single-use plastic and paper bags. The amendment would permit paper bags to be used for grocery delivery orders to help combat the distribution of reusable bags that will never be used—and, consequently, may actually be more harmful to the environment than single-use alternatives.
- The U.S. Justice Department announced charges against 47 individuals for allegedly defrauding the federal government of $250 million. The defendants are linked to the Minnesota-based non-profit Feeding Our Future. According to prosecutors, members of the organization provided the government with the names of children that did not exist in order to fraudulently acquire large sums of money designated for Americans struggling with hunger.
