Description

It's been a year since the federal government moved the Suicide Prevention Hotline to a single three-digit telephone number, 9-8-8.

And so far, millions of people have called that line in the last year. That could be only the tip of the iceberg though.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness says a large majority of Americans have no idea that 9-8-8 even exists. It found that 82 percent of the country doesn't know that they can get some help from a friendly voice on the other end if they call 9-8-8.

NAMI says there needs to be more awareness made about the number, so more people can use its services.
