What does it mean to soften? According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, it means to make or become gentler or less harsh, to make or become soft or less firm.
In episode 58, Genny spoke about how the section in the book, “Rise Sister Rise” by Rebecca Campbell, entitled “It’s Ok to Soften”, made an impact on her. The author asks, "What are you striving for/where in your life are you pushing or controlling?" and "What is behind that striving/pushing/controlling?"
Genny spoke about being a “control freak” and how she wanted to control everything, from her emotions to her actions and reactions. She realized her control was causing friction in her relationships. Genny identified how learning to let go was important, and how letting go of anything rigid or harsh was so freeing.
Genny also referenced “The Atlas of the Heart” by Brene Brown and how we deal with over 30 different emotions.
