Georgia wrapped up the regular season with a 38-20 victory over the Jackets, posting a perfect 11-0 record. Herschel Walker ran for 205 yards and three touchdowns, breaking Tony Dorsett's NCAA Freshman rushing record. Georgia was 11-0, and ranked #1 in the country. Only one step remained - Notre Dame awaiting in the Sugar Bowl.
