Thomas Gilbert Jr. is a Princeton graduate from a wealthy Manhattan family who murdered his hedge fund executive father, Thomas Gilbert Sr., in January 2015 because his $1,000 weekly allowance was cut. After his father reduced the allowance to $300, Gilbert Jr. went to his parents’ apartment, convinced his mother to leave, and then shot his father in the head before attempting to stage the scene as a suicide.
