As we have considered, as Jesus approaches the end of the Sermon on the Mount, He describes a series of choices His listeners need to make: “Which Gate?” “What tree, what fruit?” “Which Lord?” “Where do you build?” Today, we will consider the last question: “Where do you build?”
Key points
1. Hears, does, and wisdom. Jesus made it clear that He is the firm foundation upon which the wise person builds their life.
2. We all face storms in life. Jesus never said if the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on the house. He said: And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on the house.
3. The second builder’s folly. F. F. Bruce wrote: “It is not, as is commonly supposed, a question of two foundations, but of looking to, and neglecting to look to, the foundation.”
