- Self-Control is the exercise of inner strength under the direction of sound judgment that enables us to do, think, and say the things that are pleasing to God.” - Jerry Bridges
- Bearing fruit is the outer result of a new inner nature. You can’t have the character of Christ unless Christ is on the inside.
- We cannot bear the fruit of the spirit without the power of the Holy Spirit. In other words, it doesn’t happen just by trying harder.
- Jesus said in John 15 we grow in the fruit of the Spirit as we abide in him. As we draw closer to Jesus in relationship, the Spirit of God within us bears fruit that is visible in our lives. It is the character of Christ.
John 15:4 - “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.”
