Episode 314 - Show Notes:
- It’s not wrong to have money and possessions, as long as those things don’t own us. It’s a matter of what rules our hearts. We are called to put God first in our lives, even in our finances. If money and possessions control our lives, there is no place for God to be the Lord of our lives.
- There is a fundamental connection between our spiritual lives and how we think about and handle money.
- James’ warning to the poor is for them to look at their position differently, to take their eyes off what they don’t have and place them on the life they have in Christ. To look not at their standing in this world, but to look at their standing before God.
- Rich believers are to understand they should not glory in is not their material achievements. Instead, rejoice in the fact that they are humbled before the cross like everyone else.
1 Timothy 6:10 – “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.”
James 1:9-11 – “The brother in humble circumstances ought to take pride in his high position. But the one who is rich should take pride in his low position, because he will pass away like a wild flower. For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich man will fade away even while he goes about his business.”
