Colossians 3:1-4: If, then
3:1: If: The implication is “since”
- You have been raised with Christ: If you have new life in Christ, the old man crucified, something we practice daily (Luke 9:23)
- Seek the things that are above…
- Seek: Same as Luke 11:9/Matt. 7:7: “keep seeking;” be continuously about the activity of seeking
- The things that are above, where Christ is: Lofty pursuit!! The things that matter to Jesus Himself
3:2: Set your mind on those thongs, not things that are on the earth
- Set your mind: cp. Romans 12:1-2
- Your heart will follow!
3:3: You have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God
- You have died
- Your life is hidden with Christ in God
- It is the person and personality of Christ that becomes the visible attribute of those who are in Christ
- We have the benefit, by the Holy Spirit & new nature to hide under the protection of Christ from the earthly enticements that Paul enumerates in vs. 5-10
- Put on… (vs. 10, 12)
- This is what the new self grows into looking like when we “put on” / are “hidden with” Christ in God
- In God: very intimate concept
- Vs. 4: When Christ Who is our life appears...
Another if/then: Rev. 3:20: Behold I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door I will come in and eat with him, and he with Me (This was spoken to a church!)
