My guest on the show today is Sabrina Walker. Sabrina was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at the age of 4 years old. At that time, CF was considered a "childhood disease" because most kids who had it didn't live more than a few years after diagnosis. Thankfully, we've come a long way with medical treatments since then and those with CF are living longer, healthier lives.
After graduating from high school, Sabrina faced one of the biggest challenges of her life, a cancer diagnosis. While most kids were preparing to head off to college, Sabrina was undergoing chemotherapy while simultaneously managing the complications of cystic fibrosis. During this very uncertain time in her life, Sabrina focused on what she could control and took the small steps needed to move forward. She has carried this mindset with her throughout her life.
I am fortunate to have worked with Sabrina and witnessed her strength, courage and her kindness. She inspires me and everyone who knows her with her resiliency and grace.
We've all experienced difficulties in our lives at some point. It's not what happens to us that defines us, it's what we choose to do with what happens to us that defines us. Sabrina has never allowed the challenges she's faced to stop her from doing what she wants to do.
During our conversation we talk about how running helps her clear her lungs and stay healthy. We discuss the importance of continuing to do hard things throughout our lives and how taking small steps is what leads us to achieving bigger goals. I hope this episode inspires you! Thanks for tuning in.
