I heard the story of a beloved godly servant of the Lord, who was genuinely committed to the work God had committed into his hands somewhere in the southern part of Africa. He was deeply committed to godliness but missed out on contentment. He could not bear the fact that despite his labors in prayers, in the word, his ministry still could not boast of the crowds he desired.
He so badly wanted numerical growth. In his heart was a hidden desire for fame, glory, and a large crowd. His heart was set on making it big time. That was his hidden desire and without delay he was seduced and connected with another fellow who had everything he wanted.
What started out as a "godly connection" introduced him into the demonic secret association where his needs need for wealth, fame, a large crowd were met at the expense of his faith. He strayed from faith and fell for the seducing spirits.
He was deceived by this agent of hell to trade his soul for his need. Oh, what shall it profit a man, to gain the whole world but lose his soul. He got fame, he had a large crowd, he performed fake miracles, he manipulated souls all at the expense of his life. He had given heed to seducing spirits. How did the enemy gain control over his soul? Godliness with contentment was missing in His life.
Dearly beloved, do not take for granted, the words of Apostle Paul to his son Timothy in 1 Timothy 6:6: Now godliness with contentment is great gain.
